Many of us think that the work of this world is different from the work of the hereafter. According to the Qur’an, the world and the Hereafter are two parts of the same path. Our journey began when Allah Almighty created all our souls together. Then he said,
And [mention] when your Lord took from the children of Adam – from their loins – their descendants and made them testify of themselves, [saying to them], “Am I not your Lord?” They said, “Yes, we have testified.” [This] – lest you should say on the Day of Resurrection, “Indeed, we were of this unaware.” – Sura 7: Verse172

Our journey continues on this earth which started from Adam when our souls were created.

The work that has to be done in the journey of this world, should done by instructions of Allah which mentioned in the Quran alone and that is related to the word of Salat.
The constant salat (Salat means to follow the commandments of Allah closely or communicate with HIM by following HIS instructions) is to lead oneself 24 hours in the way of Allah in this world (Surah 70, verse 23).

In the Hereafter the people of Hell will be asked why they came to Hell, then they will say that they were not among those who followed the instructions of Allah closely.

Sura 74: Verse 42-49

(42) [And asking them], “What put you into Saqar?”
(43) They will say, “We were not of those who performed salat,
(44) Nor did we used to feed the poor.
(45) And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it],
(46) And we used to deny the Day of Recompense
(47) Until there came to us the certainty [i.e., death].”
(48) So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors.
(49) Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away.

So, have we finally realized that in the life of a true believer there is no such thing as worldly work and the work of the hereafter? We have to do our 24 hour work in the way directed by Allah and there is no need for special preparation for the hereafter.
